What Iceland's Poppies Taught Me

What Iceland's Poppies Taught Me

It's not a secret that we all want to fit in, and that's why we sometimes find ourselves  doing silly things like, have you seen that super-expensive strawberry that justifies its £20 price  by saying it's the perfect one? Well, I must say I've eaten more than one delicious strawberry during my life and at a much more affordable price, however, people are buying it, and to be honest something inside me tells me to do the same, it's the most perfect one! Or wearing the latest fashion? Although sometimes we all end up wearing the same thing. Or worse, secretly wishing we had a different figure. Have you ever stopped to think how much easier life would be if you were just a little taller or a little thinner?

That's precisely what I want to talk about this time: the times we end up wishing we were like someone else, deeply believing that being like that person will make our lives easier. Sadly, we spend a lot of time fighting with ourselves, exercising to change our body shape, or being slaves to diets that promise to make you thinner.

It's rare to admire our own uniqueness; instead, we swim against the current, desiring something we're not, precisely because we've been taught that only one body type is beautiful. We have a list of requirements that will only make us attractive if we meet them.

Have you ever wondered what would happen if we all started loving every inch of our bodies just the way they are? Celebrating how unique they are, how different they are, how lucky we are to be in them.

That's what flowers have been teaching me these past few years, not only to accept myself but to celebrate each detail what makes me unique and unrepeatable. All the flowers ,but especially icelandic poppies.

ICELAND POPPIES

With their particular shapes, each one facing in a different direction, some flat, others tall, some even looking straight at the ground. With their dazzling wavy petals, with that perfection that can seem like paper, all together, finding their place in the world.

Making you happy simply by seeing them, enjoying being there, simply for the fact that they are poppies and were born wild, without rules, just being themselves and showing their magnificent colours, glowing and dancing with the sunlight. Filling your heart with joy with their dazzling beauty.

They are the wildest flowers I know, and I'm not referring to their origin, but to their attitude. Let's follow their example, let's love every part of our bodies, let's celebrate the details that set us apart from others, let's embrace our uniqueness. Whatever your shape, that's precisely what makes you special, and I'm not just referring to your physical appearance, but also to your personality, to what defines you and the traits that make you unique and unparalleled.

If you are struggling loving yourself, make a list of what do you like about yourself, also a list of what you are good at, everyone of us has different talents. Their own superpowers! I'm sure you will soon notice how brilliant you are. You just need to be warm, sweet and kind with yourself.

So the next time you wonder if you are enough, make your list. Remember what makes you so special and let's be like an Icelandic poppy. Let's value every part of ourselves, highlight what makes us different, embrace who we are, and begin an endless dance, shining in the sunlight.
